Understanding Support at Home

Common questions about the program.

The Australian Government's funded program for older people who wish to remain living at home. It delivers services under the Aged Care Act 2024, grouped into clinical supports, independence, and everyday living.
Generally, older Australians aged 65+ (or 50+ for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people) assessed through My Aged Care as needing support to continue living at home. Call 1800 200 422 to register.
Participants receive one of eight ongoing classifications (1 to 8) based on assessed need. Higher classifications receive larger quarterly budgets. Short-term pathways include Restorative Care and End-of-Life.
Most services are government-subsidised. Clinical supports have no participant contribution. Independence and everyday living may attract a contribution based on means assessment. Annual and lifetime caps protect against excessive costs.
Yes. You have the right to choose and change your registered provider at any time. Your choice and independence are central to the program.
